Tijjani Reijnders nears Man City exit after only one season
  • Tijjani Reijnders joined Man City last summer
  • He is already being linked with a move away
  • Receiving admiration from a Spanish giant

Tijjani Reijnders has endured a difficult campaign at Manchester City, and he could be offered the chance to leave it all behind him.

When Reijnders joined Man City, it looked like he was being signed as a midfielder who would start each week.

The then 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes of City’s first five Premier League matches of the season, but his first-team role gradually diminished.

By the end of the season, Reijnders made 47 appearances in all competitions, but many of these were from off the bench.

And of the Citizen’s final 10 league fixtures of the season, the Dutchman only played in three of them in total.

Tijjani Reijnders linked with Atletico Madrid

According to Radio Marca, Atletico Madrid could offer Reijnders an escape from his minimalistic role at Man City.

The La Liga outfit are considering the possibility of a move, and are in touch with City to discover more information.

Atletico are aware that it will not be easy to complete a deal, with the £46m midfielder having four years remaining on his contract.

However, if Enzo Maresca decides to regularly bench Reijnders as Guardiola has done, this would give Diego Simeone’s team an advantage.

Reijnders has already received interest from Italy

One month ago, it was reported that some Serie A clubs were interested in Reijnders, so he has admirers across Europe.

This is understandable, as Reijnders is the type of versatile player who can operate in a number of different areas.

He has played in holding and attacking midfield roles for Man City over the past season, as well featuring out wide on a couple of occasions.

Man City will sell one of Reijnders or Nico Gonzalez

Nico Gonzalez could leave Man City this summer, and it is likely at least either he or Reijnders will be sold.

Mateo Kovacic is still contracted for one more year, and it is no secret that the club are looking to replace Bernardo Silva with Elliot Anderson.

And out of Gonzalez and Reijnders, it makes more sense to offload the latter if he continues not to be first choice.

Turning 28 this summer, Reijnders is in a position where he should be at his best. So if he is not starting, he is clearly representing the wrong club.
