Man City News & Talking points … with 2026-27 just two days away

City’s transfer window accelerated on Friday, with Savinho heading for Tottenham, Omar Marmoush moving closer to joining him and talks progressing over Palmeiras winger Allan.

Plenty was happening away from the transfer market too.

Enzo Maresca confirmed Jeremy Doku will miss Sunday’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth, while Crystal Palace rejected an enquiry for Adam Wharton and the continuing wait for a verdict in City’s Premier League case attracted fresh criticism.

Here are Friday’s main City stories and talking points from ReadManCity.

City agree £85m Savinho deal with Tottenham

The biggest transfer development of the day concerned Savinho.

City have agreed a deal worth up to £85million to sell the Brazil international to Tottenham, with an initial £75m supplemented by a potential £10m in add-ons.

The 22-year-old is now set to undergo a medical before completing the move.

It represents a substantial return for City after two seasons with Savinho in the first-team squad and could also have consequences for the club’s remaining transfer business.

Marmoush agrees terms with Tottenham

Savinho may not be the only City attacker heading to north London.

Omar Marmoush has reached a full verbal agreement with Tottenham, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Talks between the clubs are described as advanced, although no agreement has yet been announced.

Marmoush only joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025, but Tottenham are now pushing to take the Egypt international to north London alongside Savinho.

City agree personal terms with Allan

While two attackers could be leaving, another may be on his way in.

City have reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with Palmeiras winger Allan, with the 22-year-old keen on the move.

Official negotiations with Palmeiras have also opened.

The Brazilian club have been reluctant to lose Allan, so there is still work to be done before any deal can be completed.

The timing is significant, however, given Savinho’s expected departure.

Who is Allan?

There is also much more to City’s latest Brazilian target than his numbers on the pitch.

Matt Purdue took a closer look at Allan’s journey from Florianópolis to the Palmeiras first team, including the considerable personal tragedy he has faced along the way.

Allan moved to Palmeiras’ academy as a teenager before making his senior breakthrough and establishing himself in the first team.

With City now negotiating for him, it is a timely introduction to a player who could soon be arriving at the Etihad.

Doku ruled out of Bournemouth opener

Maresca provided his first major team-news update ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener.

Jeremy Doku will miss the Bournemouth game after suffering a calf problem during City’s Community Shield defeat against Arsenal.

Maresca expects the Belgium international to be sidelined for around two to three weeks.

Matheus Nunes is available again, however, leaving Doku as City’s only confirmed absentee for Sunday.

Palace reject City’s Wharton enquiry

City’s midfield search produced another development on Friday.

The club have enquired about Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton but were told the England international is not for sale.

Wharton has been linked with City throughout the summer, but the latest report suggests that interest has now resulted in contact with Palace.

The London club’s answer, for the moment at least, is clear.

Mukasa returns to West Ham on loan

Divine Mukasa has left City for the season.

The 18-year-old has returned to former club West Ham United on loan after signing a new City contract earlier this summer.

Mukasa joined City from West Ham in 2023 and spent part of last season on loan at Leicester.

The deal gives him another opportunity for regular senior football before returning to Manchester next summer.

City’s opening-day record offers encouragement

Attention will eventually have to move away from transfers.

Bournemouth visit the Etihad on Sunday for Maresca’s first Premier League match as City manager.

History is firmly on City’s side.

They have won nine of their last 10 Premier League opening fixtures, with the only defeat in that sequence coming against Tottenham in 2021.

Our opening-day feature looks further back too, from City’s early Football League history to the club’s first Premier League fixture at Maine Road in 1992.

Borson calls verdict delay an ’embarrassment’

Away from transfers and Sunday’s game, the continuing wait for a verdict in City’s long-running Premier League case remains unresolved.

Football finance expert and former City adviser Stefan Borson described the delay as an “embarrassment” as another Premier League season begins without a decision.

His comments followed Premier League chief executive Richard Masters acknowledging earlier this week that the process has taken longer than expected.

City continue to deny wrongdoing.

A changing City head into opening weekend

It has been a busy final Friday before City’s Premier League season begins.

Savinho is heading towards Tottenham and Marmoush could follow him. City are negotiating for Allan and have tested Palace’s resolve over Wharton. Mukasa has departed on loan, while Doku will miss the Bournemouth game through injury.

Maresca’s squad could yet look different again by the time the transfer window closes.

For now, though, the focus is about to switch back to the pitch.

Bournemouth arrive at the Etihad on Sunday and, after a summer of significant change, Maresca has his first opportunity to put Premier League points on the board.
