- The summer transfer window is open for business
- Man City are expected to be busy over the coming weeks
- In the past the club have not held back on spending big
The transfer market is open as of today, so let’s take a look at the five most expensive signings Manchester City have ever made.
5. Antoine Semenyo
Man City’s most recent signing arrived in a deal worth £64m, and he has been worth every penny so far.
Semenyo was already having an excellent season at Bournemouth, and he continued to impress after making the switch up north.
The winger has scored seven Premier League goals in 17 appearances for his new club, and he was the only player to find the net in the FA Cup final.
4. Ruben Dias
The Citizens had to invest heavily to secure a then 23-year-old Ruben Dias from Benfica. He cost £65m, while Nicolas Otamendi moved the other way.
On the whole, that has been money well spent on the defender, who would go on to win the Premier League player of the year award in 2020/21.
If Dias were to leave the club this summer, the original fee paid would not be returned to Man City, but he has done more than enough to make his price tag worth it.
3. Kevin De Bruyne
After Kevin De Bruyne flopped at Chelsea, it was always going to be a big risk signing him, even after some good displays for Wolfsburg.
However, the Belgian maestro was absolutely sensational for City, producing some of the best play-making moments the Etihad has ever seen.
De Bruyne left the Sky Blues on a free transfer, but nobody was complaining. After all, he is undoubtedly one of the greatest Man City players of all time.
2. Josko Gvardiol
Josko Gvardiol is about to sign a new Man City contract, which says everything you need to know about his time at the club so far.
The Croat has impressed with his versatility, playing as a central defender and out wide on the left flank.
Enzo Maresca will have plenty of options to choose from in the middle, but do not be surprised if the 24-year-old starts on a weekly basis.
1. Jack Grealish
Man City’s most expensive player ever was only signed five years ago, but he has lacked the longevity of someone like De Bruyne.
Jack Grealish was exceptional in his first few seasons, but his later struggles would see him loaned out to Everton.
It remains to be seen whether the 30-year-old will play for City again, but he is certainly not going to be a first-team starter.
