Kyle Walker tells Man City to reconsider signing Elliot Anderson
  • Elliot Anderson closes in on Man City move
  • Two offers already made by the club
  • Kyle Walker makes his concerns known

Kyle Walker is unsure whether Manchester City should sign Elliot Anderson, and it has nothing to do with his eye-watering price tag.

As the days pass by, it is beginning to look much clearer as to how Man City will line up in midfield next season.

Bernardo Silva is set to join Real Madrid, and Elliot Anderson could replace him before the transfer window slams shut.

The Citizens have already had two offers rejected for the midfielder, but a £130m transfer fee would be enough to secure his services.

Kyle Walker is concerned by Man City’s Elliot Anderson pursuit

While Man City are optimistic about getting a deal done for Anderson, ex-Citizens Kyle Walker has his doubts about whether they should even bother.

The right-back knows he is an excellent player, but has concerns about what this means for Rodri’s position in the first-team.

Walker told talkSPORT: “It’s obviously great for the football club, but what about Rodri? A Ballon d’Or winner we’re talking about here. Can you fit both of them in the team?

“Is Anderson gonna want to go further forward? Is Rodri gonna want to go further forward? For me, you kinda keep the squad as happy as you can do.

“And I know Rodri personally, and if someone comes in at £130m, you’re gonna want to play football. Is that gonna ruffle a few feathers? Hopefully not!”

Rodri still has a role to play

Walker proceeded to be questioned about whether Anderson was being signed as a player for the future.

However, he has pointed out that Rodri still has a few years left at the top, being only 29 years old at this point in time.

“Rodri’s not that old, he added. “The only thing that was letting Rodri down in the last couple of seasons is the injuries.

“You still pick Rodri! He is the Ballon d’Or winner and what he’s done for the Premier League and for Manchester City is unbelievable.

“Listen, I think he’s a great signing if they can make it and put it over the line, but you need to make sure that things are still in place at home before you start venturing out.”

Rodri and Anderson will play together

With Silva gone, it is highly likely that Rodri will start alongside Anderson at the heart of Man City’s midfield.

At £130m, he is not being signed to warm the bench. Likewise, there is no way the Spaniard will be excluded from the starting lineup.

Anderson is a good all-round player, and he should be able to adapt into a more attacking role under Enzo Maresca, if necessary.

Looking at City’s alternative options in the position, it is hard to see who else would be selected instead of these two stars.
