Josko Gvardiol’s new Man City contract length confirmed by journalist
  • Josko Gvardiol’s future has been up in the air
  • He has decided to remain at Manchester City
  • Signing a new contract is now his priority

Josko Gvardiol will be staying at Manchester City, and on top of that he is putting pen to paper on a new deal.

There have been a lot of twists and turns over the past couple of weeks in relation to Josko Gvardiol’s future at Man City.

The defender appeared to suggest he would not be leaving City, but claims emerged only a few days later that he wanted a Real Madrid move.

However, Gvardiol is set to remain at Man City during the summer transfer window. In fact, he will sign a new contract too.

Josko Gvardiol will sign a five-year deal

According to Nicolo Schira, Gvardiol will sign a new contract with Man City which will not expire until 2030.

There is also an option to extend it by a further year, meaning he could spend the next five seasons of his career at the Etihad.

This ends all the speculation surrounding the Croatia international. He is staying at the Citizens, rather than moving to Madrid or Munich.

Man City’s central defence is going to be stacked

Gvardiol’s renewal means that Man City are in a very good position when it comes to having stability at the back.

Marc Guehi and Abdukodir Khusanov worked well together during the second half of the season, but they will face competition.

Gvardiol was starting before his January injury, while Ruben Dias has been a familiar face in the starting lineup over the years.

Additionally, the likes of Vitor Reis and May Alleyne are available next season, so City have a whole host of options.

City have one more job to do

Man City’s central defensive area is looking pretty good now, but there is still work to be done in the transfer market.

In the right-back position, there are only two players in Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis, so adding another is important.

Lewis started very few matches during the 2025/26 season, and will need replacing if he exits the club this summer.
