- Anderson moving closer to joining City
- Club have alternative options in mind
- Update emerges on Sandro Tonali
Manchester City could be set for a summer of heavy spending, particularly when it comes to the midfield area.
Most of Man City’s recent transfer rumours have revolved around their midfield, which is unsurprising considering the departure of Bernardo Silva.
Additionally, neither Nico Gonzalez nor Tijjani Reijnders have managed to set the Etihad Stadium alight since their arrivals.
City have placed a bid for Elliot Anderson, and he is not the only player in his position to be linked with the club.
Man City could sign Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson this summer
It was recently reported that Sandro Tonali could be signed by Man City if they end up missing out on Anderson.
However, according to Simon Bajkowski, Tonali’s potential arrival has no correlation to what happens with the Nottingham Forest man.
With uncertainty surrounding the futures of almost every City midfielder, it is highly plausible that they will sign two new midfielders this season.
Therefore, adding both Anderson and Tonali to the squad could happen, even if it means spending up to a combined £200m to complete both deals.
City might experience a mass exodus
While the journalist believes Rodri will remain at Man City, there are no guarantees. Especially since the Spaniard has refused to rule out a move.
And he is not the only one. Tijjani Reijnders has been linked with Atletico Madrid, and there has been interest from clubs in Serie A too.
Nico Gonzalez is considering his future at the club, while Mateo Kovacic is not going to be around forever.
Signing two midfielders makes sense
Even if no midfielders other than Silva leave, it would still be useful for City to add a couple of players in the position to their ranks.
After all, last year’s signings have not made the impression Pep Guardiola was hoping for. So unless Enzo Maresca can change their fortunes, they are not going to be starting much next season anyway.
Whereas Anderson and Tonali are both exceptional players who have proven themselves in the Premier League.
Signing both would be a real statement of intent from Man City that they mean business, and it would be some way to back the incoming manager.
