Man City make transfer U-turn on Enzo Fernandez
  • Man City have been linked with Enzo Fernandez
  • Enzo Maresca said to be interested in Argentine
  • Update reveals whether the club still want him

Manchester City have been linked with Enzo Fernandez, but there is another midfielder who is viewed as a higher priority.

The summer transfer window is nearly upon us, and Man City are already plotting some moves despite being without a manager.

Pep Guardiola has overseen his final match as head coach, and now it looks like Enzo Maresca will take charge of City.

He will be looking to make the team his own, and that starts by bringing in new additions to the squad.

Man City are not looking to sign Enzo Fernandez

With Maresca’s impending arrival, Man City have been in talks to sign Enzo Fernandez, who played under the Italian at Chelsea.

However, the club are not looking to pursue a deal for the Argentine midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.

Instead, the Citizens are prioritising a move for Elliot Anderson, who obviously brings the benefit of being a homegrown player.

City have hit a bump in the road in their Elliot Anderson pursuit

While Man City have decided to move their focus away from Fernandez, bringing Anderson to the Etihad Stadium is not proving to be straightforward.

City have been in a two-horse battle with Manchester United, and now there are complications surrounding the player’s valuation.

Nottingham Forest want £105m for Anderson, but the Sky Blues value him at around £80m, which is quite a sizeable difference.

Bringing in another midfielder is essential

Man City have lost a major asset in Bernardo Silva, so failing to sign a new midfielder this summer is simply not an option.

Nico Gonzalez and Tijjani Reijnders both arrived at the club last year, but neither has been able to make a significant impact.

Someone like Anderson or Fernandez would walk straight into the first-team and make a big difference, so getting a deal done is of great importance.
