  • Club want a deal sorted before the World Cup
  • One factor is preventing a move from happening

Manchester City have long been interested in Elliot Anderson, but they may need to make a compromise in order to secure his services.

The Elliot Anderson saga has been ongoing for months now, with the Manchester rivals battling each other for the England international.

However, fighting off the Red Devils is just one of Man City’s concerns. There is also the fact that Nottingham Forest are demanding a high transfer fee.

Evangelos Marinakis is personally handling the negotiations, and last summer he made it clear that he is one tough cookie.

Man City do not want to spend above £80m on Elliot Anderson

According to talkSPORT, Man City are not in alignment with Nottingham Forest when it comes to Anderson’s valuation.

The Citizens value their long-term transfer target at £80m, but Forest have set a £105m asking price, believing him to be worth the price Arsenal paid West Ham for Declan Rice.

Despite this, City are still feeling optimistic about completing a deal, and will continue to pursue Anderson even if Rodri signs a new contract.

Anderson is not City’s only midfield target

Along with Man United, the Sky Blues are still admirers of Sandro Tonali. However, Newcastle would also demand a fee above £100m.

And City have been in talks to sign Enzo Fernandez, which seems like a realistic move if Enzo Maresca becomes the club’s next manager.

Therefore, there are other options besides Anderson, even if the 23-year-old is City’s number one transfer target.

Man City will end up signing Anderson eventually

If Anderson wants to join City, it is hard to see how this move fails to take place, regardless of the current circumstances.

Forest are going to have no choice but to sell. Indeed, this is not the same situation as Tottenham Hotspur faced with Morgan Gibbs-White last season.

The club had just qualified for the Europa League, whereas this time around they were not far off being relegated from the Premier League.

Anderson is going to leave Nottingham Forest this summer, and City are simply far more enticing than Man United.
