- Man City are making progress towards appointing Enzo Maresca
- The manager appears keen on joining the Citizens this summer
- There are still matters to discuss before he signs the contract
Manchester City are close to making Enzo Maresca their new manager, but it is not a done deal yet.
Enzo Maresca’s move to the North West has been a badly kept secret, with the ex-Chelsea boss linked with Man City for months.
However, many supporters still believed Pep Guardiola would stay for one more year. Additionally, there were other managers to have been mentioned.
Xabi Alonso was a contender before he agreed to join Chelsea, while Vincent Kompany was the fan favourite to take the job.
Despite this, Maresca is the man City want. Now, it is about getting a deal over the line so the club can begin a new era.
Enzo Maresca is close to becoming Man City’s manager
According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, Man City are still in talks with Maresca this week, with hopes of finalising his contract.
Both parties have agreed on the length of his proposed three-year deal, but there is still work to be done regarding the Italian’s backroom staff, as well as a timeline for his official appointment.

It is thought that everything will be sorted in the coming days, which means the Sky Blues only have their eye on Maresca.
A new look coaching team is coming to City
It was today announced that five coaches are leaving Man City, which means Maresca has the opportunity to bring in his own staff.
Having been in management as recently as January, Maresca will likely have some former colleagues in mind to bring to the Etihad Stadium.
City’s longer serving players will have to adjust to this major switch-up after so many years of continuity under Guardiola.
But they are all professionals, and have a pre-season tour in Hong Kong to become acquainted with the new coaching team.
Maresca cannot afford a slow start
It can take time to warm into a position as manager, but Maresca knows the weight that will be on his shoulders.
With nothing more than a three-year contract being discussed, he needs to bring instant success to Man City.
Guardiola has just won two domestic trophies, and this is the kind of standard now expected of anyone taking the reins of the club.
There is also the point that with City missing out on the Premier League title two years in a row, the supporters will be desperate to win it next season.
So Maresca had better be prepared, because this is going to be the greatest of his career to date. In fact, it could end up being his toughest ever job in football.
