- Enzo Maresca is in negotiations with Man City
- An announcement is expected in the coming days
- Club are working on assembling his backroom staff
Five members of Manchester City’s coaching staff have just left the club, and at least one replacement has already been identified.
Changes are in progress at Man City, with Pep Guardiola already back in Spain after ending his 10-year spell in the Premier League.
The manager’s exit was followed by a club announcement on Tuesday, revealing that five coaches were following Guardiola out the door, including Pep Lijnders and Kolo Toure.
This means City have their work cut out for them to get a new team in place ahead of the new season, but swift progress is being made.
Manchester City will hire Pol Planas
Read Man City can exclusively reveal that Pol Planas is set to join the Sky Blues’ coaching staff once Enzo Maresca has been appointed.
The 34-year-old has spent the season as the Barcelona under-19s manager, and he has been at the Catalan outfit for the past decade.
It should not be too long until Planas’ arrival is officially announced, as Maresca is close to signing a contract with Man City.
Planas has risen up the ranks at Barcelona
Back in 2012, Planas began his first job in football, as the youth team manager at Barcelona-based La Liga outfit Espanyol.
The coach left two years later and began working towards his masters degree in physical activity and sports science at the University of Girona.
During this period, he was hired by CF Mollet, before arriving at Barcelona as their youth team’s assistant manager.
Planas has since managed the under-18s and 19s teams, and he has also lectured at Catalonian University EUSES.
And now, the Spaniard is preparing to make the move to England, where he will begin his first job in senior football.
Is Maresca definitely coming to Man City?
Unless there is a major development in the coming days, Maresca is going to be named as Man City’s next manager.
The Italian has already agreed a three-year deal with the Citizens, and there are only a few minor details left to sort out before his appointment is made official.
Maresca will take charge of the team’s pre-season preparations, meaning he will be in the dugout in Hong Kong when they play against Inter Milan at the start of August.
After this, the 46-year-old will manage his first competitive match at City, in a Community Shield clash against Premier League champions Arsenal on Sunday, August 16.
