- Man City announce backroom staff departures
- Five coaches are exiting the club this summer
- Gives new manager control to build his team
Manchester City have announced the departures of five coaches, including one who has served in more than one role at the club.
Pep Guardiola has returned to Barcelona, having left Manchester City after spending a decade in charge.
The Catalan had already seen some members of his coaching staff bid farewell over the years, including Mikel Arteta and Enzo Maresca.
And now, there has been a mass exodus, including those who have worked with Guardiola during his Barcelona and Bayern Munich days.
Five Man City coaches depart
Man City’s official website has reported that Pep Lijnders, Kolo Toure, Lorenzo Buenaventura, Manel Estiarte and Xabi Mancisidor will all leave the Citizens.
Fitness coach Buenaventura has worked with Guardiola since his time at Camp Nou, as well as operations and support officer Estiarte.
Goalkeeping coach Mancisidor’s departure is a big reveal, as he has worked for Man City since Manuel Pellegrini’s spell at the club.
Assistant coach Lijnders is gone after only one season, while Toure previously occupied a role in the under-18s team.
Enzo Maresca will bring in his own coaching staff
Unless something changes in the next couple of weeks, Enzo Maresca is going to become Man City’s next manager.
The fact so many City coaches are leaving means the Italian will be able to build his own team, which should help him get settled fairly quickly.
One concern that could be raised by this is about a lack of continuity. With five coaches leaving, Maresca’s arrival is not exactly bringing about a smooth transition.
However, it is important to remember that Maresca has been a coach at Man City before, so he knows what is required at this great club.
Will Man City succeed under Maresca?
While City’s coaching team is being completely switched up, there will be plenty of players who will continue to call the Etihad Stadium their home.
Erling Haaland will still be banging in the goals next season, while players like Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki should grow into their current roles even more.
The foundations are in place for a really strong season, and Maresca should be able to steer his new club towards success.
