- Helps futureproof new club’s defensive line
Hermann Malonga has joined Manchester City from Paris Saint-Germain, but who is the young defensive talent?
According to Fabrizio Romano, Man City have completed the signing of Hermann Malonga, who joins from PSG.
The 18-year-old is happy with the terms proposed and will enter into the Premier League team’s ongoing project.

Who is Hermann Malonga?
Malonga is a centre-back who was born in the French town of Étampes, but has Congolese citizenship as well.

He joined PSG in 2023, initially playing for their under-17s team. However, just one year later Malonga made the step up to under-19s.
Over the past season, Malonga made 15 appearances, with his game time limited due to his injury struggles.
Malonga’s route to the Man City first-team
The Citizens already have Vitor Reis returning from his loan move at Girona, while Max Allyeyne is another youthful option.
Higher up in the pecking order, Ruben Dias, Abdukodir Khusanov, Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol will all be competing for a spot in the starting lineup.
Therefore, Malonga will not be playing for the senior squad when he first arrives. It is far more likely that he will represent either the under-18s or under-21s team.
However, the defender is one to watch in the years to come, as the City scouts have clearly seen something in him.
City’s first summer signing
Now that Malonga is heading to the Etihad, he has become Man City’s very first signing of the summer transfer window.
Elliot Anderson could well be next, as City have already tried unsuccessfully to sign the midfielder on two occasions.
Finding a new right-back is also viewed as essential, while there could be an addition on the wing further up the pitch at some point.
