- Rodri’s Man City contract expires next summer
- The club have offered him a new deal
- He continues to be linked with Real Madrid
Real Madrid are still plotting a move for Rodri, despite the fact Manchester City are looking to keep him at the club.
Rodri has to make a decision on his future this summer, as there are only two real options for Manchester City.
Either the club will agree a new deal with the midfielder, or an attempt will be made to sell him so he does not become a free agent next year.
Man City have offered Rodri a new contract, so it seems their preferred choice is for the Spaniard to spend his long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Pep Guardiola has been clear that Man City will not stop Rodri from leaving if he chooses to do so.
Real Madrid are confident in securing Rodri
It would seem Real Madrid have not been put off wanting to sign Rodri, despite the fact City want him to put pen to paper on a new deal.
According to Team Talk, the La Liga club are growing ‘increasingly confident’ of moving the 29-year-old back to his home city.
Rodri’s representatives have already discussed the likely terms of a potential exit with Man City, which increases the possibility of a transfer.
Despite this, Los Blancos are determined not to pay over the odds for the midfield maestro, so a deal is by no means set in stone.
Rodri will decide his Man City future
Ultimately, Real Madrid’s reluctance to spend big on Rodri is unlikely to matter. This is because if the player wants to join them, City will have little choice but to accept.
There is no point keeping Rodri hostage when he is not going to sign an extension, so if he wants to leave this summer, he will be granted this request.
Still, Guardiola clearly wants the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner to remain at the club and the option is there for him to stick around.
