- Pep Guardiola has one year remaining on his Man City contract
- He could leave this summer
- The club have lined up potential candidates in case he departs
Manchester City are considering six different managers who could be approached to take charge of the club once Pep Guardiola departs.
This summer is set to be busy for Manchester City, with plenty of decisions needing to be made ahead of next season.
It has been reported that Pep Guardiola will step down as manager, despite the fact his contract only expires next year.
Some sources have said Enzo Maresca will be appointed by Man City, but there appears to still be a number of candidates on the club’s radar.
Man City are considering six managers
According to Team Talk, Maresca is indeed one of the leading candidates under consideration at Man City, especially due to his history with the club.
However, Vincent Kompany is also seen as a natural fit, given the fact he used to captain the Citizens during his playing days.
Ex-Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is another name to have come up, while Andoni Iraola and Cese Fabregas are being considered too.
Finally, Germany manager Julien Nagelsmann happens to be another option, as he is keen on taking on a Premier League club in the future.
Maresca and Alonso should be easy for Man City to secure
Kompany has a special connection with Man City, but luring him away from a thriving Bayern Munich team could be tricky.
Maresca and Alonso on the other hand are both between jobs, which means they should not take too much convincing. This is especially true of the Italian, who has previously held the role of assistant manager at City.
With the club’s tremendous record in recent years, it certainly seems like they will have a lot of options to choose from when Guardiola does depart. Now, it is just a case of deciding which coach is right for their future progression.
