Tino Livramento has been heavily linked with Manchester City, but transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has spoken out to contradict previous reports.
Manchester City are in the market for a new right-back and it was recently claimed that the club were willing to pay £70m to sign Tino Livramento.
More recently, one ex-chief executive described Livramento’s move to Man City as ‘nailed on’, meaning it is as good as confirmed.
This would see Man City’s right-back issues resolved, as Matheus Nunes is currently the only available option in the position.
Tino Livramento is not close to joining Manchester City
Despite these earlier reports, Livramento is not actually close to signing for Man City, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Pep Guardiola’s team wanted the Englishman a year ago, but there have since been no fresh or concrete transfer talks between themselves and Newcastle.
However, Man City are still expected to sign a right-back this summer. There is just no guarantee it will be Livramento.
Man City may be dodging a bullet by not signing Livramento
While Livramento is a quality player, he does have a tendency to get injured on a fairly regular basis, which is concerning for a team who want a reliable defender.
The 23-year-old spent a year on the sidelines after a cruciate ligament tear in April 2022 and he has already suffered three separate injuries this season.
It is all well and good having a player with technical ability, but if he is rarely available to play, there is little point in having him in the squad.
