Oscarr Bobb has revealed exactly why he swapped Manchester City for Fulham after his £27m January transfer.
Manchester City’s clash against Nottingham Forest in September 2023 was a special day and this was not merely because the hosts claimed a 2-0 victory, despite Rodri being sent off.
More significantly, it was the day Oscar Bobb made his first full Manchester City debut, four years after he first joined the club’s academy.
The Norwegian continued playing for Man City, but after making only nine Premier League appearances during the first half of this season, he departed the club.
Oscar Bobb reveals why he left Manchester City
According to Bobb, he was not necessarily looking for a move away from the Etihad Stadium, but it became clear his future role there would be limited.
When Fulham came knocking, Bobb had a conversation with Pep Guardiola which ultimately resulted in his exit.
He told the Daily Mail: “I wouldn’t say I was desperate to move. I had some fitness issues but then they also made some signings and there was a big squad there in the end. Both parties agreed if the right club came, it would be fair for me to move.
“When Fulham came in and I spoke to Marco Silva, I felt like that was the right thing. It was very appealing. I spoke to the manager at City and the sporting director, and they were brilliant, they understood.”
Bobb will have to keep working hard at Fulham
Although playing for Fulham is not as difficult as making it at Man City, Bobb still needs to put in the work to make it as a Premier League player.
The 22-year-old has made five appearances there so far, but the only game he started was the team’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
If Bobb is to establish himself as a regular starter in Marco Silva’s team, he needs to show what he is all about.
However, the winger’s slow start to life at Craven Cottage could be due to his recent return from a hamstring injury. Once he is back to peak fitness, perhaps he will go on to become a key player for the club.
