Tim Sherwood names the one competition he expects Manchester City to win this season

Tim Sherwood has predicted Manchester City to win one trophy this season, but he does not think it is the one Pep Guardiola will be targeting the most.

Manchester City are currently competing on four different fronts in order to bring silverware to the Etihad Stadium.

The Sky Blues have a League Cup final later this month and are making good progress in the FA Cup and Champions League.

Then of course there is also the Premier League, with Man City still in with a shout as they sit in seventh place with a game in hand on Arsenal.

Tim Sherwood predicts Man City to win the League Carabao Cup

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has had his say on which trophies Man City will win this season and he is not feeling too optimistic.

While Sherwood does not expect City to finish the campaign without silverware, he reckons they will lift the one at the bottom of Pep Guardiola’s priority list.

When asked how many trophies City would win, Sherwood told Sky Sports News: “I’ll say one – Carabao [Cup].

“It’s not the one they want in order of preference. I think Pep, from his point of view, he’ll probably want to win the Champions League.

“He’s done the Premier League so many times, but the ultimate one for Arsenal certainly would be the Premier League.”

Although the Carabao Cup final will be contested by Arsenal and Man City, Sherwood does not believe it will have an impact on how the Premier League concludes.

“And I’m not sure it’s going to be that important, the Carabao Cup, to who goes off to win the Premier League now,” Sherwood continued. “I know that both Arsenal and Man City are fighting now in that. Would it give them the extra confidence boost? I’m not so sure now.”

He added: “A couple of weeks ago I would’ve said ‘yeah it’s really pivotal this game’, I’m not too sure. So I’m going to give them one [trophy], I don’t think they’ll go the whole season empty handed, but I think it might be the Carabao Cup.”

Man City will fancy themselves in the FA Cup

It is clear Man City are at a disadvantage in the Premier League, but they have just as good a chance as any other team to win the FA Cup or Champions League.

Winning Europe’s biggest competition is a huge ask, but City will feel good about the FA Cup after their dominant display against Newcastle.

Obviously the Premier League and Champions League are the main goals, but Guardiola would certainly not turn his nose up at a third FA Cup win since he arrived at the club.
