Tino Livramento has been linked with a move to Manchester City and there appears to have been a breakthrough in the club’s quest to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City are looking to sign a new right-back this summer, despite the impressive displays of Matheus Nunes.
Last month it was reported that Man City were interested in Tino Livarmento, who had been a first-team starter for Newcastle until his recent injury troubles.
City were said to be so keen on the defender that they were willing to make him the most expensive right-back in the world, with Newcastle’s asking price set at £70m.
Manchester City ‘nailed on’ to sign Tino Livramento
According to ex-Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, an agent has revealed that Livramento is set to become a Man City player next season.
Wyness has confirmed the £70m transfer fee which was reported previously which is likely to be agreed during the summer transfer window.
He told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast: “Yes, very much so. I think that’s pretty much nailed on as far as I’m aware.
“I heard from somebody the other day. I talked to an agent who said that it’s going to be happening. They did expect that sort of big number around the £70m mark, which is a big number, as we say, breaking the record.
“But I think he’s the right one for City. I think he’s a talented player, and it helps Newcastle fill the coffers.”
Nunes could still play as a right-back for Man City
The fact Nunes was the only player to start against both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle says a lot about Man City’s lack of right-back options.
Therefore, it would not be surprising to see the 27-year-old continue to play some matches as a right-back, even if Livramento joins the club.
While Nunes is traditionally a midfielder, he has played well in Pep Guardiola’s backline and could still provide cover in the full-back position when it is required.
