City remained at the centre of debate over their financial case on Tuesday, with Gary Neville asking Sky Sports to take him off their matches and Steven Gerrard giving his view on how the club should be punished.
Broadcasters have also faced questions over their coverage of City, while Enzo Maresca’s side prepare to return to Champions League action against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Neville asks to come off Man City games
Gary Neville has asked Sky Sports to take him off City matches for the next few months while the club’s financial case remains unresolved.
“If you could take me off Manchester City games moving forward for the next few months until the verdicts have been heard, I would be absolutely delighted,” Neville said.
There has been no indication that Sky has agreed to his request. Neville made the comments after covering City’s 3-0 victory at Liverpool on Sunday. The issue of how broadcasters cover City has received further attention after The Athletic examined the dilemma facing Sky Sports.
Oliver Holt also returned to the subject on Tuesday, accusing City of “poisoning the Premier League” and questioning how Sky and TNT Sports can continue showing their matches. Holt had already called for broadcasters to stop showing City games live, describing them as “ghost games”. There is no indication that Sky or TNT Sports is considering removing City matches from its schedules.
Gerrard calls for multi-year punishment
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has called for City to face a multi-year punishment following the independent commission’s findings.
Gerrard said he would favour a points deduction and transfer ban lasting more than one season. He also argued that City’s achievements should carry an asterisk, regardless of whether any titles are stripped. He opposed relegating City to the Championship, saying that would unfairly affect EFL clubs.
Gerrard was giving his opinion rather than outlining any sanction being considered. City have appealed against the commission’s findings, and no punishment has yet been imposed.
PSG next at the Etihad
Attention on the pitch turns to Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with defending champions Paris Saint-Germain. City opened their league-phase campaign with a 2-0 victory at Porto, while PSG beat Slovan Bratislava 6-1. Maresca’s side go into the game after eight successive competitive victories, including Sunday’s 3-0 win at Liverpool.
The match kicks off at 8pm BST at the Etihad and will be shown live in the UK on TNT Sports 1, with streaming through HBO Max. Our Man City v PSG TV and streaming guide has the full details.
City hold advantage in PSG head-to-head
Wednesday will be the ninth competitive meeting between City and PSG. City have won four of the previous eight, PSG two and two have ended in draws. The clubs first met in the UEFA Cup in 2008 before becoming regular Champions League opponents.
PSG won the most recent meeting 4-2 in Paris in January 2025 after City had led 2-0 through Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland. City are unbeaten in their four previous competitive home games against PSG, winning three and drawing one. Our Man City v PSG head-to-head has all eight previous matches and results.
