Oliver Holt calls for Sky to stop showing Man City games live

Sky Sports Etihad

Oliver Holt has called for Sky Sports and other broadcasters to stop showing Manchester City games live until the club’s punishment in the Premier League financial case has been decided.

The journalist made the argument after City beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield on Sunday, a match shown live on Sky Sports.

City have appealed against the independent commission’s findings and have not yet been given a sanction.

Holt calls Man City matches ‘ghost games’

Writing on X, Holt said: “There has to be a strong case now for Sky and other channels ceasing to broadcast Manchester City games live until their punishment has been decided. Their games are ghost games.”

There is no indication that Sky Sports or any other broadcaster is considering taking City matches off air. The suggestion is Holt’s view as debate continues over the club’s position while the appeal and sanctions process remains unresolved.

City’s 3-0 win over Liverpool has already led to questions over how results this season would be affected if a significant points deduction were eventually imposed.

The Athletic raised that issue following the Anfield victory, although no punishment has been decided.

City lodged their appeal on 1 October and maintain that the commission’s findings are wrong. A separate process will determine any sanction.
