Jeremy Doku and Omar Marmoush in World Cup action as Belgium draw with Egypt
  • Belgium played Egypt in the World Cup
  • Two Man City stars were chosen to start
  • Neither was able to land on the scoresheet

Jeremy Doku and Omar Marmoush were competing against each other on Monday night, and one will likely be feeling happier than the other.

Success has often been hard to come by for Belgium at major tournaments, despite the nation usually having a very strong squad.

And this year already appears to be going that way. There are plenty of good players in their team, including Jeremy Doku and ex-Citizen Kevin De Bruyne.

However, they have been frustrated in their opening FA Cup fixture, failing to claim all three points at the Seattle Stadium.

Egypt are the team who prevented Belgium from getting the win. In fact, it was the African side who led the match for roughly 45 minutes before they conceded.

Although a victory was too much to ask in the end, that was still a solid result for the country who have never won a game at the World Cup, so Man City’s Omar Marmoush will be happy.

Belgium on the other hand will be highly frustrated, as they should really have been more of a threat based on the attacking talent at their disposal.

Marmoush made an impact for Egypt

While Marmoush was not the one to put the Egyptians ahead, he did take more shots than any other player, firing five in total.

Additionally, the 27-year-old completed the joint-most dribbles, and had more touches in the opposition match than anyone else on the pitch.

Whereas Doku had an unusually quiet game, as he struggled to deliver the all-important moment to win his team the game.

In fact, the winger did not manage a single shot on target, which was practically unheard of towards the end of the season when he was representing Man City.

What next for Doku and Marmoush?

Belgium will be looking to right the wrongs of their first match of the tournament, with a victory over Iran on Sunday.

Just under a week later, they will take on New Zealand in a game which they would be expected to win. Then again, the All Whites only conceded once against England in a warm-up game.

Marmoush’s Egypt will take on New Zealand a few days earlier, before finishing off their group stage campaign with a duel against Iran.
