- Bernardo Silva’s Man City contract is about to expire
- The midfielder is linked with a move to Barcelona
- Pep Guardiola has offered his verdict on the skipper
Pep Guardiola has revealed how he expects Bernardo Silva to get on if he makes the switch from Manchester City to Barcelona.
The 24th of May was an emotional day as Bernardo Silva signed off his nine-year stay at Man City, along with John Stones and Pep Guardiola.
The Portuguese international remained an essential player right to the very end of his time at the Etihad Stadium, appearing in every Premier League fixture this season.
And now, Silva wants to join Barcelona, a move which Sergio Aguero made five years ago after his City departure.
Pep Guardiola backs Bernardo Silva
Aguero’s spell at Camp Nou did not work out, as he suffered an injury which forced him into a premature retirement.
Silva will be hoping to fare better if he joins the La Liga giants, and he has received the full support of his former manager.
When asked about Silva’s potential move to Barcelona, Guardiola told Mundo Deportivo: “Bernardo would adapt to any team. He’s just too good.”
Silva would not be the only midfielder to join Barcelona
It is not just Aguero who switched Man City for Barcelona. Ilkay Gundogan made this move in 2024, and it was almost as short-lived.
Spending just one year in Spain, the now 35-year-old returned to the Citizens, where he spent one more season before signing a contract with Galatasaray.
However, with Silva only turning 32 in August, and still delivering some of his best football, he should be able to keep up a good level for a few years at Barcelona.
Man City are working on replacing Silva
By now, it is very well-known that Man City are trying to sign Elliot Anderson. In fact, Nottingham Forest have already received an offer for their midfielder.
Additionally, Sandro Tonali has been linked with City, and there is a possibility that the club will attempt to sign both players.
With other midfielders such as Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez all weighing up their futures, drawing up a transfer wishlist is as important as ever.
