- Rico Lewis struggled this season
- Benched more often than not
- Could push for Man City exit
Rico Lewis could look to move away from Manchester City this summer after a difficult campaign of setbacks.
Most Man City fans were pleased with the 2025/26 season. Losing out on the Premier League title was disappointing, but the Sky Blues still won two trophies.
Having signed for City at the age of eight, Rico Lewis will have enjoyed watching his boyhood club achieve silverware.
However, Lewis will be frustrated that he was not able to play a bigger role in it, having only made 22 appearances in all competitions.
Rico Lewis is considering his Man City future
According to ESPN, the future of Lewis is in doubt after a season where he was afforded so few opportunities.
The 21-year-old is considering his options, and has not ruled out pushing for a move during the summer transfer window.
Enzo Maresca’s impending arrival could have some effect on Lewis’ decision, as he might look on the right-back more favourably.
But there are no guarantees, especially when City have one of the best full-backs around in Matheus Nunes.
Man City are going to replace Lewis
It has just been revealed that Man City want to sign a young right-back who naturally slots into the position.
This will be a player to learn and develop while acting as an understudy for Nunes, while perhaps starting every now and then in the cup competitions.
Ultimately, this means there is no future for Lewis at Man City, meaning he will need to find another club this summer.
Nottingham Forest were previously interested in Lewis
Man City are currently pursuing a move for Elliot Anderson, who of course plays his football for Nottingham Forest.
And it turns out the East Midlands club were actually interested in signing Lewis last summer, though a move never came about.
Although Lewis has not played much since then, he should still have options available to him in the Premier League.
After all, he is an England youth international and at 21 years old, still has plenty of time to make a success of his career.
