Man City set to pay price for appointing Enzo Maresca

Share
  • Enzo Maresca will become Man City’s next manager
  • Complications remain due to his Chelsea agreement
  • Talks are still ongoing regarding a potential payment

Manchester City’s appointment of Enzo Maresca is all but confirmed, though there are still some details to iron out.

The Pep Guardiola era is done and dusted, and it should not be long now before Man City formally announce his replacement.

Enzo Maresca will be taking up the vacant managerial role, returning to the club after spells at Leicester City and Chelsea.

However, before the Italian’s arrival becomes official, there is still work to be done behind the scenes in order to satisfy his former club.

Man City are still in compensation talks with Chelsea

Maresca’s Chelsea exit was quite premature. In fact, he departed with three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.

According to Lyall Thomas, this means the Citizens will need to make a payment in order to compensate for the London club’s losses.

The lawyers of both clubs are currently in talks, but there are hopes that everything will be resolved by the end of the week.

The World Cup has benefitted Man City

Luckily, Man City are in absolutely no rush to get everything sorted for Maresca’s arrival, considering the World Cup begins next week.

The summer tournament will last for a month, so during that time most people’s focus will be on how their country is getting on.

By the time it is over, City should long have come to an agreement with Chelsea, enabling them to press on with Maresca at the helm.

When will Maresca be announced?

It makes sense to have Maresca officially in place before the transfer window opens on Monday, June 15.

And with the compensation saga expected to be over by the end of the week, it is realistic for the announcement to take place soon.

Although nothing is confirmed, Man City should have their man in position by the end of next week, if not sooner.

matchday.
