Enzo Maresca wants Man City to sign Chelsea star who can compete with Matheus Nunes

• Enzo Maresca wants to reunite with Chelsea right-back
• Could see Matheus Nunes provided with competition
• Third Blues player to be linked with a move to Man City

Manchester City have set their sights on a Chelsea full-back, but he is also wanted by one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Enzo Maresca’s arrival at Man City is expected to be announced within the next few days, so he will be in position before the summer transfer window opens.

The Sky Blues are likely to be busy negotiating deals, and Chelsea appear to be a side they are looking to raid.

Marc Cucurella has been linked with Man City, while there has been plenty of speculation over the future of Enzo Fernandez.

And now, it has emerged that a third Chelsea player is on City’s radar, with Maresca keen to reunite with a number of his former players.

Enzo Maresca wants Malo Gusto at Man City

According to TEAMtalk, Man City have enquired about Malo Gusto, having heard that he might be available this summer.

Maresca has ‘strong appreciation’ for the 23-year-old, and views him as a versatile option who fits nicely into his system.

However, Chelsea are feeling relaxed about City’s interest. In fact, the London outfit could offer him a new and improved deal.

There are no plans from the Blues to sell Gusto, and he is likely to play an important role under new manager Xabi Alonso.

City face competition from Bayern Munich

Getting a deal over the line for Gusto will be hard enough, considering Chelsea’s firm position on the matter.

Worse still, Bayern Munich are also showing an interest in the right-back, and are exploring their options in this area of the pitch.

The Bundesliga team are an attractive option, as they just won the German league for a second successive season.

Additionally, they were only narrowly denied a place in the Champions League final by PSG, who eventually went on to win the competition.

Signing a new right-back is important to the Sky Blues

Maresca is walking into a team who could use a new right sided defender, as while Nunes has impressed this season, there is a lack of depth in the position.

Rico Lewis only made 22 appearances across the 2025/26 campaign, so there is no guarantee his role will become any more significant under Maresca.

And it is looking more likely that the impending manager will look to the transfer market instead, with his sights set on reuniting with Gusto.
