- Man City were in talks to sign Enzo Fernandez
- The club’s attention was diverted elsewhere
- Journalist claims their pursuit is not yet over
Manchester City are said to no longer be interested in Enzo Fernandez, but that very much depends on who you ask.
The World Cup-winning midfielder worked with Enzo Maresca during the Italian’s time at Chelsea, so trying to bring him to Man City would be understandable.
Earlier in the week, it was revealed that City were in talks to sign Fernandez, as he was wanted by the incoming manager.
However, a more recent report claimed Man City were no longer pursuing Fernandez, as they are instead eyeing a move for Elliot Anderson.
Journalist says Man City are still interested in Enzo Fernandez
According to Caught Offside, Maresca wants Fernandez at the Citizens, meaning the club are still tracking him.

Despite this, there is interest from other clubs. Arsenal have joined the race for the 25-year-old, although Sandro Tonali is viewed as the greater priority.
Additionally, a ‘serious approach’ is expected from Real Madrid, setting up a potential £110m agreement between Los Blancos and the Blues.
City’s priority is to sign Anderson
Fernadez’s links to Man City were only recently revealed, and yet they have already been quashed by some journalists.
This would indicate that any interest the Sky Blues have had in Fernandez is not overly serious, meaning a deal this summer is unlikely.
Whereas City have been pursuing Anderson for months, and will be looking to finalise his transfer ahead of the World Cup.
Signing both midfielders might be too much of a financial strain
In an ideal world, Man City would complete the signings of both Anderson and Fernandez, but there is little chance that will happen.
Nottingham Forest want around £100m for their prize asset, and it sounds like Chelsea’s demands for Fernandez are similar.
City are no strangers to spending a lot of money in the transfer market, but splashing £200m in only one position would be a bold move.
If Rodri decides to extend his current contract at the club, only one midfielder is going to be joining, and that will probably be Anderson.
