When will Man City officially announce Enzo Maresca’s appointment?
  • Man City are going to replace Pep Guardiola
  • Enzo Maresca has been lined up for the job
  • An official announcement is expected soon

Manchester City are going to make Enzo Maresca their next manager, but when will he finally be revealed?

Maresca’s arrival at the Citizens is highly anticipated, as it has been known for some time that he will take charge of the club.

Indeed, as soon as it was reported that Guardiola would be leaving Man City, the news about Maresca was also dropped.

However, two weeks later, there is still no sign of the Italian. Therefore, City fans are wondering when the official announcement is coming.

Enzo Maresca’s appointment is happening soon

According to Manchester Evening News journalist Simon Bajkowski, Maresca will get going at Man City within the next few days.

There is no uncertainty about his appointment, but with the World Cup about to begin, there is only so much he can do at this current time.

Bajkowski said: “He [Maresca] should officially start in the next few days, although he will have been getting ready for a long time already.

In terms of how much work he can do though, there’s not loads, given that all of the squad are on their holidays and nearly all of them are off to the World Cup.

“Things are expected to pick up in July when pre-season officially starts and then they will head off on the summer tour to Asia, where it is hoped that the friendlies they will play can be of some value before they return and head to Cardiff for the Community Shield against Arsenal.”

Man City’s options were limited

As well as clarifying when Maresca is arriving, the journalist also revealed why Man City decided not to approach Luis Enrique.

Ultimately, it would not have made sense for the Spaniard to leave PSG, considering the team’s European domination.

And Vincent Kompany would not have been a straightforward hire either, considering he is already at a massive club in Bayern Munich.

Maresca seemed the most logical step for now, but if he fails to succeed in the role, City might reconsider going for a bigger name.

Maresca will dive straight into the deep end

Although Maresca will have time during the pre-season period to prepare for the new campaign, his first competitive match is a Community Shield clash against Arsenal.

This is a big game for the manager, as it is an early chance to lift his first piece of silverware as the club’s head coach.

Man City were undefeated in three matches against Arsenal this season, but the Gunners did win the Premier League title.

It should be a fascinating encounter, and hopefully one which sees Maresca make the best possible start in the next chapter of his career.
