Marc Cucurella linked with Man City due to Enzo Maresca interest

Marc Cucurella linked with Man City due to Enzo Maresca interest
  • Man City eye move for Chelsea defender
  • Enzo Maresca eager to set up reunion
  • Could be issues with player’s integration

Manchester City have been linked with one of Enzo Maresca’s former players, and no, it is not Enzo Fernandez.

That rumour has been doing the rounds over the course of the week, with reports stating that Man City are interested in Fernandez.

However, Elliot Anderson is City’s priority. Therefore, there are doubts surrounding whether the club will decide to actively pursue the Argentine.

Despite this, there is another Chelsea player who has caught City’s eye, with Enzo Maresca looking to reunite with one of his former stars.

Man City are interested in Marc Cucurella

According to Radio Marca, City’s incoming boss is interested in adding Marc Cucurella to his new squad.

The left-back has made 50 appearances this season, and last year he started in the Conference League and Club World Cup finals under Maresca.

Interestingly, Man City wanted to sign Cucurella in 2022, and this is the very reason Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly decided to pursue him in the first place.

Cucurella’s arrival would require some reshuffling

If Cucurella were to join the Citizens, Maresca would likely make some positional adjustments with the players already at his disposal.

Moving Nico O’Reilly back into midfield would make the most sense, allowing Cucurella and Rayan Ait-Nouri to compete for the left-back role.

Josko Gvardiol could play at the heart of City’s defence, while Nathan Ake could leave this summer to join Bournemouth.

How much would Cucurella cost Man City?

Chelsea bought Cucurella in a deal worth £63m back in 2022, but Transfer Markt reckon he is now worth £20m less than that figure.

Having said that, Cucurella will still only be 28 next season, and his price could always rise provided he performs well for Spain at the World Cup.

In addition to this, he has two years remaining on his contract, so Chelsea are not obligated to make an imminent sale.

All things considered, Cucurella would not come cheap. Therefore, City would need to make sure he would actually be a regular starter, in order to get good value for their money.
