Maresca confirms double Man City injury boost as five stars return for Brighton

Man City Premier League verdict: Enzo Maresca speaking at a Champions League press conference

Enzo Maresca has confirmed City will have Matheus Nunes and Iliman Ndiaye available for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Brighton.

Five other senior players who were rested for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup victory over the same opposition are also back in contention, leaving Antoine Semenyo as City’s only absentee.

Nunes and Ndiaye available for Man City

Nunes has been working his way back from a muscle problem, while Ndiaye was on the bench but not used as Manchester City beat Brighton on penalties in midweek. Maresca delivered a positive update when discussing his squad at Friday’s press conference.

“They are all available,” the City boss told the club’s official website. “[Apart from] Antoine Semenyo, the rest are all available.”

City will also welcome back Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias, Elliot Anderson, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Josko Gvardiol. All five were given a break for Wednesday’s cup tie, with Maresca making nine changes to his starting XI. City eventually progressed after a 2-2 draw, Geronimo Rulli saving twice as the holders won the shootout 4-3.

Semenyo remains the exception. The winger is continuing his recovery from the injury suffered against Ipswich earlier this month, with Maresca saying he is undergoing treatment but is not yet close to returning.

The availability of the rest of his squad gives Maresca plenty of options as Brighton return to the Etihad just three days after the cup meeting. City’s manager is expecting another demanding game against a side sitting third in the Premier League, but the players rested in midweek should return fresh.

Maresca now has Nunes and Ndiaye available as well, providing two further options as City begin another run of three games in the space of a week.
