- Manchester City linked with Elliot Anderson
- Major rival reportedly stepping back from pursuit
- Situation could benefit Pep Guardiola this summer
Manchester City could be handed a significant boost in the race for Elliot Anderson following a fresh development involving Manchester United.
Pep Guardiola is expected to strengthen his midfield options this summer. Following the departure announcement of Bernardo Silva, the Catalan gaffer will likely need some reinforcements in the centre of the pitch.
Several midfield names have already been linked to Man City in recent months. Nevertheless, Elliot Anderson continues to attract major interest from Guardiola’s side.
However, competition for the England international remains strong, with multiple clubs reportedly interested in the midfielder.
Manchester United reluctant to enter Elliot Anderson bidding war
Luckily for City, ESPN reports that rivals Manchester United won’t be entering a bidding war for Anderson. The Red Devils have been monitoring the midfielder for some time now.
However, the financial demands of the deal aren’t in the club’s best interests at the moment. With Man City also in the race, both clubs might enter a bidding war if neither side give in.
With United willing to step back, this offers City an advantage as one of the major competitors will be out of the race.
Nottingham Forest maintain price tag
United might exit the race because Nottingham Forest have set Anderson’s price tag at a whopping £120 million.
The England international has no release clause in his contract. Likewise, Forest aren’t willing to discount their valuation of the midfielder.
Anderson’s contract with the Reds lasts till 2029, and the Nottinghamshire-based outfit are in a strong position to demand a huge sum for the 23-year-old.
Manchester City could still face strong competition
Despite Manchester United cooling their interest, other top clubs might prove harder competitors for Man City.
Reports have linked Arsenal and Chelsea with the London-based outfits’ interest growing after the midfielder’s development and performances.
However, Guardiola’s side find themselves with one less competitor in the race. Now, Manchester City may need to match Nottingham Forest’s demands and convince the player, with the latter potentially proving decisive.
