“In a few months, it’s time to say goodbye to the city where not only we won so much as a football club, but also where I started my marriage and my family. From the bottom of my heart, Ines and Carlota, thank you”, Silva said in the message.
Addressing the fans, he added, “To the fans, your unconditional support throughout the years is something that I will never forget. My main goal as a player was to always play with passion so you guys could feel proud and well represented on the pitch.”
The end of an era
Silva’s departure will mark the end of an era at the Etihad. The Citizens will lose one of their most intelligent and versatile players, who helped them succeed on multiple occasions.
Replacing him will be a tough job, given his ability to influence and control the tempo of the game. Nevertheless, the midfielder’s legacy is secure given his contributions.
Now, the attention will turn to City’s focus on reshaping their squad for the upcoming season. With Guardiola’s future also uncertain, the management has a lot of preparation to do.
Man City are already planning ahead
The Sky Blues have already listed down a few options to replace Bernardo Silva. Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Ibrahim Maza is the latest on the list.
After missing out on the midfielder last season, the Citizens have reiterated their interest in the Algerian international.
Another player on the club’s list is Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester.
Replacing a player of Silva’s quality will not be easy, but City must do what they must to keep on assembling a winning squad for the future.
