- Man City beat Southampton in the FA Cup semis
- They have now reached four straight finals
- Ange Postecoglou has praised Pep Guardiola
Former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has praised ‘relentless’ Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola after his side’s 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win against Southampton.
City left it late and had to come from behind to get past the stubborn Saints, who tested the Carabao Cup winners and took the lead through Finn Azaz.
Jeremy Doku then equalised three minutes later, before Nico Gonzalez’s long-range stunner won it just three minutes from time.
The win means City have now reached a record fourth straight FA Cup final, becoming the first side to do so in the competition.
Ange Postecoglou praises ‘relentless’ Pep Guardiola
Speaking after the game, ex-Spurs boss Postecoglou cited Guardiola’s ‘drive’ and his ‘relentless’ nature as setting him apart from other coaches.
The Australian spoke TNT Sports: “I just think there’s a drive inside him that not only very few people have. That’s the reason he’s above everyone else.
“It’s not just about the coaching, it’s not just about the tactical expertise he has and the challenges he puts [to the players]. He’s obviously created an environment where he’s just relentless in this pursuit of excellence.

“The FA Cup is actually harder, because you only need one off day in any knockout competition, and you miss out. So he’s again shown why he’s the best and that transfers through to his team.
Man City chasing a domestic treble
Saturday’s victory not only took City to a fourth straight FA Cup final, it also ensured they are still on course to win an incredible treble.
Having won last month’s Carabao Cup final against Arsenal, the Cityzens are now on the cusp of lifting three trophies, something few would have predicted just months ago.
The turnaround has been nothing short of remarkable, and Guardiola has been the driving force behind his side’s late-season surge once again.
Is Guardiola the greatest ever manager?
In terms of overall trophies won, Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson still leads the way. The Scot’s 49 titles make’s him the most successful of all time in that regard.
However, Guardiola’s tally now stands at 40 across his incredible career with Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. The Catalan could end this season with 42, and is rapidly closing in on Ferguson’s record.
While he may soon take the title of most successful manager of all time, there is an argument to say that Guardiola is already the greatest.
Unlike Ferguson, who won the majority of his titles with one club, Guardiola has been successful in three different countries, winning everywhere he goes.
