- Man City are back in Premier League title race
- Have FA Cup semi-final tie to play later this month
- Carabao Cup has already been won
There is now genuine belief that Manchester City could win three trophies this season and we are willing to go one step further and say it is going to happen.
Manchester City were in a difficult place in the early stages of March. Arsenal appeared to be running away with the Premier League title and many saw them as favourites to win the Carabao Cup.
Additionally, City’s FA Cup hopes were not nearly as promising as they are now. Indeed, some even predicted Newcastle to knock out the Sky Blues in the fifth round tie at St James’ Park.
However, City are now Carabao Cup winners and are looking far more likely to lift both the Premier League and FA Cup trophies.
Man City have woken up
For a while, it looked like Man City had fallen asleep at the wheel. Each game, there was too much sideways passing which lacked any sense of urgency.
Erling Haaland would barely touch the ball in some matches, as the Citizens continued to look predictable and lifeless.
Now, this is certainly not the case. Rayan Cherki has breathed a lot of life into the team since he became a regular starter.
Nico O’Reilly also deserves a shout-out for his brilliant attacking contributions, which played a big role in the 2-0 win over Arsenal.
On the whole, Man City are looking more balanced and active in every area of the pitch, which is why they have recorded three successive clean sheets, as well as a host of goals.
Arsenal cannot find their rhythm
The Gunners look completely lost at the moment. They were not brave enough against Man City in the League Cup final, and spent too long trying to slow the game down.
Since then, Mikel Arteta’s squad have failed to rediscover their previous form, suffering defeats to Southampton and Bournemouth respectively.
Arsenal only have a week to bounce back and their focus cannot solely be on City, due to a midweek Champions League fixture against Sporting CP.
Man City could soon be level on points in the Premier League
It is highly likely that Man City will beat Arsenal on Sunday. All the facts point to this being the case, so saying this really should not be considered that controversial.
Should this happen, City will only be three points behind the Gunners, with a game-in-hand against Crystal Palace still to be played.
Wins in both these fixtures would put Guardiola’s team level on points with Arsenal and after recent events, they now have very similar goal differences.
With Man City experiencing all the momentum from that point onwards, surely they would go on to win the league.
City’s FA Cup path is wide open
The Premier League is looking more promising, but not half as much as the FA Cup! After all, Arsenal are out of the competition along with every other team in the Premier League top five, excluding City themselves.
The Citizens are highly likely to defeat Southampton in the semi-finals, particularly due to the way they are currently playing.
Then there is the final, where Man City would either face Chelsea or Leeds United. Considering Sunday’s result, a tie against the Blues would be met with confidence.
Then there is Leeds, who City have beaten six times in a row. This should be enough to show that the boys in Sky Blue are huge favourites to lift English football’s oldest trophy.
Pep Guardiola will leave Man City after their treble success
There has been a lot of speculation about Guardiola’s future and when Man City win every trophy still on offer, he will make a decision to exit the club.
Winning a domestic treble is not the same as 2022/23, when the Catalan boss won the Champions League.
However, it is an incredible achievement in its own right and one which did not look possible a matter of weeks ago.
This would give Guardiola the chance to end on a massive high and it would make little sense to risk any damage to his legacy by staying on another season.
Therefore, when Man City win all three domestic pieces of silverware, it is going to be an emotional moment for more reasons than one.
