Manchester City star Rayan Cherki has been singled out for praise after his incredible display in Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final victory against Liverpool at the Etihad.
The French forward proved to be a constant threat, frequently dismantling Arne Slot’s defensive structure with his individual brilliance and it was a glittering performance that left plenty singing his praises.
Cherki assisted Antoine Semenyo’s second-half goal with a perfectly weighted through ball, and was heavily involved in much of City’s ruthless attack.
Although Erling Haaland’s hat-trick earned the Norwegian man-of-the-match, Cherki’s performance was another reason for City fans to celebrate.
‘Unplayable’ Rayan Cherki delights Manchester City
Among those waxing lyrical over Cherki’s quality on Saturday was TalkSPORT’s Adrian Durham, who commentated at the game.
Speaking on TalkSPORT’s Kick Off programme, he was delighted in the 22-year-old’s ability.
Durham said: “Rayan Cherki – so good to watch, it’s like he’s been sent, this season, to save football.
“He’s a magic maverick and his cute, clever pass. [He] set up Semenyo for a lovely goal, start of the second half.
“Cherki was unplayable at times, gliding past players like they don’t exist. He was superb.”
How good can Rayan Cherki become for Man City?
French international Cherki is already lighting up English football.
The 22-year-old joined City from Lyon last summer in a £34 million move that already looks like an incredible bit of business.
With 10 goals and 12 assists in his first season, the youngster has hit the ground running and quickly established himself as one of Pep Guardiola’s sharpest attacking weapons.
But with age on his side and his potential remains the most exciting factor to consider.
If he can continue to perform and develop on his current trajectory, who knows what heights he could yet reach.
