- Rodri has been linked with Real Madrid
- The midfielder is only contracted to Man City for one more year
- Spanish radio personality says he will not join Los Blancos
Rodri has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but a Spanish radio host has revealed there is one Premier League midfielder the club are far more likely to sign.
The future of Rodri has been a big talking point at Manchester City, particularly during the past week. In an interview, it appeared that Rodri was pushing for a move to Real Madrid, after he said it was hard to refuse the best clubs in the world.
However, Rodri criticised the media for making heavy edits to produce the clips which surfaced online, indicating he might not be eager to move on from Man City after all.
On top of this, Man City do not want to sell Rodri, which makes it all the more likely that he will still be playing at the Etihad Stadium next season.
Raul Varela says Rodri will not join Man City
According to Radio Marca host Raul Varela, Rodri has ‘no chance’ of leaving Man City in order to join Real Madrid.
In fact, he has suggested that Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez is more likely to make the move to the La Liga giants.
“Enzo is much closer to Real Madrid,” Varela said. “Rodri has no chance of going to Real Madrid.
“Today, the president of Real Madrid doesn’t want to sign him. I hate transfer news because everything changes every fifteen minutes, but today the president of Real Madrid is not going to sign Rodri Hernández.”
Fellow radio commentator Jorge Liano added: “Rodri at 50 per cent is a better footballer than Enzo, but of course the Argentinian would fit in and be a key player in this Madrid team.”
Man City need to have a discussion with Rodri
Right now, it seems unclear what the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner wants to do this summer, which does not help Man City.
Even if Real Madrid do not come knocking, there is still a chance Rodri could choose to depart, considering the short length of time remaining on his contract.
Therefore, Man City need to have a conversation with the 29-year-old as soon as possible in order to discuss his plans for the future.
The club either need to renew his contract, or put him up for sale to secure a transfer fee before the window closes.
