- The international break is currently ongoing
- Abdukodir Khusanov represented Uzbekistan against Venezuela
- Antoine Semenyo starred for Ghana in Germany
Two Manchester City players started for their countries on Monday and one got on much better than the other.
Abdukodir Khusanov was not selected to play Uzbekistan’s first fixture of the international break. However, he was in the team to face Venezuela in the FIFA series.
Antoine Semenyo was also handed a start as Ghana took on Germany. Unlike Khusanov, Semenyo did start his nation’s previous match, which was a 5-1 defeat to Austria.
For Khusanov, Monday was a jubilant occasion, as Uzbekistan won their game on penalties, but Semenyo experienced less joy.
Abdukodir Khusanov and Antoine Semenyo’s matches had different outcomes
Manchester City’s 22-year-old defender will be pleased with his performance, because he helped his country maintain a clean sheet before the shootout.
Semenyo on the other hand was less impressive, with Ghana falling to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Germany.
The winger was unable to register a goal contribution and he failed to land a single shot on target across the 90 minutes.
Man City have more stars in action on Tuesday
There are plenty more Man City players representing their countries today and Gianluigi’s match with Italy is the most important. Indeed, victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina tonight would see his national team qualify for the World Cup this summer.
Erling Haaland’s Norway will face Switzerland at 5pm UK time and later on, Rayan Ait-Nouri will line up for Algeria against Uruguay.
Man City’s host of England stars will take on Japan, minus the injured John Stones, and Tijjani Reijnders will be looking to get on the scoresheet again for the Netherlands, who play Ecuador.
Finally, Spain are up against Egypt at 8pm BST, which means Rodri could be playing against Omar Marmoush.
