- Rodri has spoken about his future during the international break
- He welcomes the possibility of a return to Spain
- The captain is refusing to rule out a switch to Real Madrid
Rodri has offered a hint on where he is likely to move after departing Manchester City and it sounds like this plan will be acted on soon.
Manchester City will see changes in the midfield area this summer, with Bernardo Silva set to leave the club.
There is always the possibility the captain will be followed out by players such as Nico Gonzalez, who has been handed fewer starts than he would have liked.
However, the next most likely player to bid Man City farewell is Rodri, after a jaw dropping interview during the international break.
This is despite the fact that Man City want to keep Rodri, while previously the 29-year-old chose not to speculate on his future.
Rodri refuses to rule out Real Madrid move
It seems Rodri’s mind is now made up and he could swap Man City this summer in order to return to his home country.
Surprisingly, the Bernabeu appears to be his preferred destination, as he has branded Real Madrid ‘one of the best clubs in the world.
Rodri told Radioestadio Noche: “I would like to return, yes, obviously,” when asked about a move back to Spain.
Speaking on whether a move to Real Madrid was a closed shop due to his history with Atletico Madrid, the midfielder replied: “No, no. There have been many players who took this road, not directly but with time. For me, you cannot refuse the best clubs in the world.”
Rodri has past conflict with Real Madrid
The fact Rodri is seemingly interested in playing for Real Madrid has come as a shock to supporters of both the La Liga team and Man City.
This is because Rodri won the 2024 Ballon d’Or over Vinicius Jr, causing Real Madrid to boycott the ceremony. Man City fans even responded with a banner which said “stop crying your heart out,” when Los Blancos visited the Etihad Stadium in the Champions League.
Despite this, Rodri added: “I have nothing against Vini Jr. I have maximum respect for him, for everything he did that Ballon d’Or year too”.
“It’s other people who decide who wins the Ballon d’Or. They tried to put us against each other, but that’s not the case”.
Remarks like this would appear to suggest that Rodri is very much open to a Real Madrid move, meaning Man City could ultimately make the decision to sell him this summer.
