- The Etihad Stadium has been expanded
- Seats have been added to the North Stand
- Man City have made plans to reopen it
Manchester City will eventually open their expanded North Stand and a timeline on this occurrence has now been revealed.
Building bigger stadiums and increasing the sizes of existing ones has been a common theme in recent years.
This is particularly true of the English game. Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Everton have all moved into new stadiums in the past few years.
There are also clubs such as Liverpool who have gradually increased their ground’s capacity over time and Manchester City have used the same strategy.
Man City will reopen the North Stand before the season ends
The North Stand expansion is the latest development inside the Etihad Stadium, which will see its overall capacity rise above 60,000.
According to Manchester Evening News, Man City are expected to have the upper tier of the structure open before the end of the season.
After the FA Cup tie against Liverpool this weekend, City only have four home matches before the campaign reaches its conclusion.
Therefore, it is likely that the full proximity of North Stand will be able to welcome supporters by May at the latest.
Man City need to get fans buying tickets
Just because the capacity at the Etihad Stadium is increasing, this does not mean it will be full once the North Stand reopens.
Man City’s attendances have remained high in the Premier League, but this has not always been the case in domestic cup competitions, or even the Champions League.
The club have already been warned by fan groups not to raise ticket prices next season. If they are to consistently sell out the ground, it might be a wise idea to listen.
