  • Liverpool and Manchester United have raised ticket prices for next season
  • Man City fans groups have requested their club not to do the same
  • The North Stand expansion has been used to support their plea

Three Manchester City supporters’ groups have called on the club to think carefully before raising ticket prices next season.

Manchester City have had an infamous reputation when it comes to the atmosphere of their home ground.

The Emptihad taunt is often used by their rivals, but this is not a fair reflection on the true supporters who back their club on a weekly basis.

However, there is clearly a problem with getting fans to attend matches in large numbers. After all, City have seen attendances under 40,000 this season in both a Champions League and a Carabao Cup fixture.

Man City fan groups object to potential ticket price rises

The 1894, along with MCFC Foodbank Support and Trade Union Blues, have teamed up to release a statement asking their club not to raise ticket prices next season.

Pep Guardiola’s remarks about his team needing the fans has been included in the post, which is entitled “Read the room, City.”

The fan groups have also mentioned how there are 7000 more seats to be filled next season due to the North Stand expansion.

This will involve moving fans from their usual section in order to accommodate hospitality areas, leaving the club open to even more criticism.

It is illogical for Man City to raise ticket prices

Telling Man City not to raise their ticket prices as a gesture to the supporters is a good enough reason for the club to listen.

However, even if City are not bothered with rewarding loyalty, there is a more logical argument which ought to convince them.

Man City’s attendances for fixtures considered to be less important, will keep dwindling unless the fans are prioritised.

It costs so much to attend Premier League matches alone and so many will stop bothering with cup competitions altogether.

Therefore, Man City should do the right thing and keep ticket prices as they are. With Pep Guardiola’s current project coming together nicely, not is the time to create unity, rather than unrest.
