  • Rodri has spoken about the possibility of leaving Real Madrid
  • Man City still want to keep the midfielder
  • One Spanish presenter says something about a potential move does not add up

Rodri has been linked with a move from Manchester City to Real Madrid, but one Spanish journalist has questioned what the midfielder’s role would look like at the La Liga club.

The international break can be quiet on a club front, but this is not the case with Manchester City after an astonishing interview.

Rodri opened the door to a Real Madrid move during a conversation with the Spanish media, declaring that it was hard to refuse the best clubs in the world.

However, Man City still want to keep Rodri, meaning there could be some interesting developments to watch out for in the coming months.

Rodri would not replace Aurélien Tchouaméni at Real Madrid

According to Spanish radio presenter Manu Carreño, Rodri’s potential switch to Real Madrid would risk displacing Aurelien Tchouameni. This would make little sense, as the midfielder has been exceptional under Alvaro Arebola.

Even if Rodri does join, Carreno is confident that Tchouameni would keep his first-team spot, raising questions about the Man City players’ position in the team.

He told El Larguero: “There’s one thing that doesn’t add up for me. We’ve been saying all season that there’s a debate at Real Madrid about whether they need a Zubimendi, a Rodri, that they need a player like that in midfield, someone to bring order.

“So, if Rodri comes now, or imagine if Zubimendi came, it wouldn’t be to play alongside Tchouaméni. So, yes, it’s a complicated operation, because to think that Tchouaméni is going to disappear from that midfield.”

“Tchouaméni will play with Rodri or without Rodri.”

Rodri is already guaranteed starts at Man City

Clearly, there is competition in the Real Madrid midfield. The club could use a player like Rodri, but this does not mean he would start every game.

The Spaniard has established himself at Man City and he has lived out the best years of his career at the Etihad Stadium.

It would be a shame to see Rodri go and the player himself has to consider whether a move to Real Madrid would actually be right for his future.
