  • John Stones has been plagued with injuries this season
  • He still managed to be named in the England squad
  • The defender could miss their next fixture due to an injury concern

John Stones was named in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad, but he is in a race against time to be fit for the first of their two March friendlies.

England are in action tonight and there is plenty to keep an eye on, with five Manchester City players included in the squad.

Among these is John Stones, who is yet to make an appearance since captaining Man City to an FA Cup victory over Newcastle United.

The defender’s selection for the Three Lions is perhaps a little surprising, given he has made only 15 appearances this season.

However, Stones did start for England during a 3-0 win over Wales last September and he is clearly still a valued member of their team.

John Stones may miss England’s next friendly

Unfortunately, the Man City defender is an injury doubt for England’s Friday night fixture against Uruguay, according to Craig Hope.

Thomas Tuchel’s side were seen training at Wembley Stadium yesterday and Stones was reported to be experiencing a calf problem.

The 31-year-old has already missed much of this season due to a thigh injury, so this is another huge blow, especially with the World Cup just months away.

Stones still has a chance to be fit in time to play Japan

There is no word as of yet on how bad Stones’ injury is, which means he might be fit in time to face Japan on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, this cannot be guaranteed and it could be that Stones has to return to his club in order to assess the extent of his latest issue.

It is a real shame for the centre-back, who has spent more time on the sidelines this season than he has on the pitch.
