Manchester City are leading the way to sign Elliot Anderson, but the Nottingham Forest midfielder will come at a significant cost.
There will be new midfielders arriving at the Etihad Stadium this summer, with Bernardo Silva set to become a free agent.
Elliot Anderson has been linked with Manchester City and a new BBC Sport update from Sami Mokbel has confirmed that the Citizens are the most likely club to secure his signature.
Many of those inside Manchester United view Anderson as a player who should be prioritised, but City are still in the lead of this race.
Elliot Anderson will cost Man City at least £80m
According to the new report, Man City will have to part ways with £80m at the very least in order to secure Anderson.
Man United would be willing to pay this transfer fee, but their concern lies with getting into an auction with their rivals regarding the 23 year old’s wages.
Still, the Red Devils have not yet given up on Anderson, so there is no room for complacency by Manchester City.
If they want to bring the England international to the Etihad, they should act quickly once the summer transfer window opens.
Anderson proved himself in his audition against Man City
When Anderson recently lined up against Man City in the Premier League, that was a big chance for him to impress them and he took it well.
Anderson landed on the scoresheet with a really good long-range effort and he was very assertive throughout the night, helping Nottingham Forest secure a much needed draw.
£80m is a lot to pay for one player, but in the modern game, this is the price which must be paid in order to secure the finest English talents.
