Bernardo Silva played such an important role at Manchester City over the years and there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.
Saturday saw Bernardo Silva once again start for Manchester City, continuing his run appearing in every one of the club’s Premier League matches this season.
Silva has added more defensive qualities to his game over recent months and he looks like a player who could still play at a high level for many years to come.
However, there have been discussions over the Portuguese international’s future, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Bernardo Silva has not revealed when he will leave Manchester City
Silva spoke after Man City’s 1-0 victory over Leeds and he has reflected on his time at the club, describing himself as a proud Mancunian.
The 31-year-old did touch on when he will depart the Etihad Stadium for the final time, but he was unwilling to say too much about when this will take place.
Silva told Man City: For someone not from Manchester, but stayed here now for nine years – also feeling a little bit Mancunian – it makes me very proud.
“The day I eventually leave, I can assure you I’ll always support this club. I feel I became a part of this club and also a fan of this club, not just a player. After these many years, to wear the armband it’s a massive honour.
“I’ve spent, years and years of my life here. Nine years, and this is the place I started the relationship with my wife, the place I had my first daughter, it became a massive part of my life, and I think even when I’m like 60 years-old, I will always remember this city as a massive, massive, happy period of my life – not just my life, but my wife’s life, my daughter’s life.”
He added: “She was born in Portugal, but when she was one month old, she came to Manchester. She’s growing up here.”
Silva’s comments wil give Man City fans hope
Based on Silva’s comments, it is difficult to say when he will call it a day at Manchester City, but his use of the word ‘eventually’ is perhaps a reason for optimism.
This would appear to indicate his departure might not be taking place in the immediate future, although the player himself might still be undecided at this point in time.
Ultimately, whether Silva leaves in a few months or later down the line, he will be remembered fondly by Man City fans for many years to come.
