Manchester City currently trail Arsenal by five points in the Premier League, but it might not be long until this changes.
The race for the Premier League title race is heating up as Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa battle it out at the top of the table.
Mikel Arteta’s team have a firm lead, but City could reduce the deficit to two points if they win their game in hand.
Better still, Man City have an easier run of fixtures than Arsenal between now and the end of the season, so the Gunners may continue to slip up.
The league leaders have already dropped points to Brentford and Wolves over the past week and City will be looking to captalise on their rivals’ misfortune.
Man City could be top of the Premier League before March
Even though Arsenal are still in control, Man City could overtake them before the end of the month, provided the North London club drop points again.
Arsenal travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, which has not been the most difficult place to go, at least for some teams. However, Spurs have a new manager in Igor Tudor and will be motivated to get a result, as they look to avoid a relegation battle.
If Arsenal draw with Tottenham and City defeat Newcastle and Leeds, this would likely see them move top of the league table on either goals scored or goal difference.
Were Arsenal to lose the North London derby altogether, Man City would take up their position in first place by a point with victories in their next two matches.
Man City must continue piling the pressure on
There is no room for any more setbacks in the Premier League for Manchester City. Arsenal’s current lead means there is still work to be done, while Aston Villa are only three points behind.
Pep Guardiola’s objectives are clear – win, win and win again. Considering City’s upcoming fixtures, this is definitely a possibility.
Newcastle away is not an easy game, but this will be followed by meetings against a number of teams in the bottom half of the Premier League table. It certainly looks as though City have a realistic chance of going top in the not too distant future.
