Eddie Howe has waxed lyrical about Newcastle United’s performances away from home just days before his team travel to the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City got the better of Newcastle United in both legs of the Carabao Cup semi-final and they are looking to come up with another strong showing in the Premier League.
The gap between themselves and Arsenal currently stands at five points, but a victory on Saturday would really pile the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s team.
However, Newcastle still have plenty to play for and there is something about their recent displays which has given Eddie Howe confidence.
Eddie Howe praises Newcastle’s away form
Newcastle thumped Qarabag 6-1 in the Champions League, a result which saw them extend their winning run away from home to three matches.
Playing at the Etihad Stadium may be a different level of difficulty to a tie in Baku, but Howe is feeling good about the way his players are performing on the road.
He said: “It looks like, with the run of away games, we’ve worked out how to play away. It’s been a really good return, the last three games.
“We’ve had really tough games, navigated them really well and I think we’ve shown that we’re a good team, so I’m really happy with where we’re at, at the moment.”
Newcastle will be chasing European football
While City clearly need a win to increase their chances of winning the Premier League, this is certainly not a dead rubber for Newcastle.
The Magpies will want to qualify for European football again next season and this remains a possibility, despite their modest points tally.
Another strong performance will be needed to overcome a Newcastle team who are high on confidence and eager to continue their impressive streak away from home.
