Opta Supercomputer rates Manchester City’s chances of defeating Newcastle

Manchester City will take on Newcastle United for a fourth time this season on Saturday and the Opta Supercomputer has predicted which side will emerge victorious.

There is a lot of anticipation for Manchester City’s next Premier League game after Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw by Wolves, who sit bottom of the table.

Should Man City record a victory against Newcastle, just two points would separate them from Mikel Arteta’s side.

This would increase the pressure on Arsenal’s players and cause the North London derby on Sunday to become a must-win fixture. Therefore, it is essential that City avoid any slip-ups and see off Newcastle for a third time this season.

Manchester City have a good chance of defeating Newcastle

The Opta Supercomputer has delivered its verdict ahead of Newcastle’s visit to the Etihad Stadium and Man City supporters will enjoy what they see.

According to the data driven predictor, City have a 58 per chance of beating Newcastle. This is in stark contrast to the visitors, whose chances of a victory stand at 19 per cent.

One big reason for this prediction is because Newcastle have only picked up one win in their previous five Premier League matches.

Another pre-match insight given is that Erling Haaland has scored in 58 per cent of City’s league matches this season, so Newcastle could have a hard time keeping him quiet.

Man City must avoid complacency

As per usual, Arsenal fans have already been celebrating as if they have won the Premier League title, but their team are beginning to crumble.

City are in a great position to take advantage, but in the words of Haaland, they must stay humble and just focus on winning each game.

There are still 12 matches to go in the Premier League and it is important for the Sky Blues to maintain focus and keep registering positive results.
