City’s pursuit of Iliman Ndiaye gathered pace on Thursday as another busy day of transfer activity brought movement in both directions at the Etihad Stadium.
Jack Grealish could return to Everton, Nico Gonzalez has completed his move to Newcastle, and Omar Marmoush is heading to Tottenham.
Enzo Maresca also faced the media before Friday night’s trip to Crystal Palace, while City discovered their first Carabao Cup opponents and awaited the Champions League draw.
Here are Thursday’s Man City news and talking points.
City working on Ndiaye move
Iliman Ndiaye started Thursday as a player City were interested in. By the afternoon, reports suggested they were working on a move.
TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook first reported that City were looking at the Everton attacker, who is valued at around £80million by his club.
Fabrizio Romano later said City had suggested to Everton a possible deal involving Ndiaye moving to the Etihad.
Ben Jacobs subsequently reported that City are working on a move for the Senegal international.
Grealish could return to Everton if an agreement is found. The 30-year-old spent last season on loan on Merseyside and is keen to go back.
No agreement has been reported for Ndiaye and there is nothing yet to establish this as a straight swap.

Gonzalez signs for Newcastle
Nico Gonzalez’s City career is over after 18 months.
The midfielder has completed a permanent move to Newcastle, leaving the Etihad after making 59 appearances and scoring four goals.
City and Newcastle did not disclose the fee. Sky Sports reports that the deal could reach £50million including add-ons, potentially allowing City to recover the money they paid Porto in February 2025.
Gonzalez said his desire to play more regularly was a factor in leaving.

Marmoush closes in on Tottenham switch
Omar Marmoush is also on his way out.
City have agreed terms for the forward to join Tottenham on loan, with the deal including a £60million obligation to buy.
It would see Marmoush follow Savinho to north London and further change the attacking options available to Maresca.
The timing is relevant to City’s pursuit of Ndiaye, with space opening in the squad for another forward.

Maresca looks for more leadership
Maresca used Thursday’s press conference to speak about what he still wants from his squad.
The City manager said he would like another “one or two captains” alongside Rúben Dias and Erling Haaland.
That adds some context to City’s continued interest in Enzo Fernández.
The Chelsea midfielder knows Maresca well from their time together at Stamford Bridge and has been one of City’s major targets during the window.

Doku ruled out of Palace trip
Jérémy Doku will not be available at Selhurst Park.
The winger remains sidelined by the calf problem he suffered in the Community Shield and also missed Sunday’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth.
Elliot Anderson is available after his problem against Bournemouth proved to be cramp, while Matheus Nunes is fit enough to be considered despite not yet being at 100 per cent.
The latest position is in our updated Man City injury and fitness tracker.
Bouaddi ready if Maresca calls
Ayyoub Bouaddi could make his City debut on Friday.
The 18-year-old joined from Lille this week and Maresca confirmed he arrives match-fit after training normally with his former club.
“He is ready, he was working with his former club so he is fit,” Maresca said.
City will give Bouaddi time to settle following his move to England, but there is nothing preventing him being involved against Palace.

Norwich drawn against City in Carabao Cup
City will begin their defence of the Carabao Cup at home to Norwich City.
The Championship side earned their place in the third round by beating MK Dons and Cardiff, while City enter the competition at this stage because of their European commitments.
The tie will be played during the week commencing 14 September. The exact date and kick-off time have yet to be announced.

Champions League opponents next
City are also waiting to discover their Champions League league-phase opponents.
They are in Pot 1 for Thursday’s draw but can still face clubs from the same pot under the competition’s current format.
Each club will be drawn against two teams from each of the four pots, giving City eight different opponents and four home fixtures.

Selhurst Park next
Before any more transfer business or European football, City have a Premier League game to deal with.
Friday’s match against Crystal Palace kicks off at 8pm BST.
City opened with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth, while Palace were beaten 2-0 at Everton.
Doku is out, Bouaddi is available and Maresca must decide whether Rayan Cherki’s two assists from the bench last weekend are enough to earn him a start.
All the practical information is here: Crystal Palace v Man City: Team news, match details and how to watch.
City needed two late goals to take three points from Bournemouth. A first away game under Maresca should tell us a little more about where his new-look side stands.
