Man City handed Norwich City home tie in Carabao Cup third round

City will begin their defence of the Carabao Cup with a home tie against Championship side Norwich City.

Enzo Maresca’s side were paired with the Canaries in the ‘seeded’ third-round draw and will welcome Philippe Clement’s team to the Etihad.

City enter the competition at this stage because of their involvement in the Champions League, while Norwich have already come through two rounds.

The Canaries opened their campaign with a 4-1 win over MK Dons at Carrow Road before beating Cardiff City 2-1 away from home on Tuesday.

City are looking to retain the trophy after beating Arsenal at Wembley in March.

Nico O’Reilly scored twice in that final as City won the League Cup for the ninth time in their history.

Only Liverpool have lifted the trophy on more occasions.

Norwich, meanwhile, are back in the Championship this season under Clement and now have a sizeable cup assignment to look forward to after negotiating their opening two ties.

It will be the first competitive meeting between the clubs since February 2022, when City won 4-0 at Carrow Road in the Premier League.

The third-round game will be played at the Etihad Stadium during the week commencing 14 September.

The precise date, kick-off time and ticket information have yet to be confirmed.
