City had to work for their 2-1 win against Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Marcus Tavernier put the visitors ahead before Marc Guéhi equalised and Joško Gvardiol struck in stoppage time.

Palace also began their season last weekend, losing 2-0 at Everton. Friday’s fixture will be Pierre Sage’s first competitive home game since taking charge.

Man City team news

Jérémy Doku has been ruled out.

Doku suffered a calf injury during the Community Shield defeat against Arsenal and was subsequently absent for the win over Bournemouth.

Maresca confirmed at Thursday’s press conference that the Belgium international remains unavailable for the trip to south London.

There is better news on Elliot Anderson. The midfielder came off during the second half against Bournemouth with cramp rather than an injury and is available for selection.

Matheus Nunes is also available, although Maresca says he is not yet back to 100 per cent. Nunes returned from injury as a substitute on Sunday and could again be involved at Selhurst Park.

New signing Ayyoub Bouaddi is another option.

The 18-year-old joined City from Lille this week and trained normally before leaving the French club, meaning there are no fitness concerns surrounding him.

“He is ready, he was working with his former club so he is fit,” Maresca said.

Whether Bouaddi is handed an immediate debut is another question. Maresca indicated that City will give the teenager time to adjust following his move to England.

Crystal Palace team news

Palace will be without Ismaïla Sarr and Chadi Riad.

Sarr picked up a groin injury during the defeat at Everton and will not recover in time to face City. Riad also remains sidelined with a knee problem.

There is better news for Sage following the arrival of Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea.

The France defender trained with his new team-mates on Wednesday and is available to make his Palace debut.

What to expect at Selhurst Park

City’s opening win was secured by two defenders, but Rayan Cherki had a considerable say in the turnaround.

The France international came off the bench and provided both assists, giving Maresca another attacking option to consider when selecting his side at Selhurst Park.

Guéhi also enjoyed a notable league debut for City, scoring against his former club Bournemouth before completing the full 90 minutes.

Palace will be looking for their first points under Sage after the defeat at Everton, where goals from Thierno Barry and Iliman Ndiaye settled the game.

City’s recent record at Selhurst Park is strong. They have not lost a Premier League fixture there since April 2015, although Palace have caused them problems on several occasions during that run.

For Maresca, the immediate target is straightforward: build on Sunday’s win and make it six points from the opening two Premier League matches.
