Manchester City Close In On Elliot Anderson After £121m Bid Rejected

Manchester City are moving closer to an agreement for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson after seeing a £121million package rejected.

According to talkSPORT, City’s latest offer was worth £106million plus £15million in add-ons, but Forest are still pushing for a British-record fee. Anderson is understood to want the move to the Etihad Stadium, with advanced talks continuing between the clubs.

The 23-year-old has become one of England’s breakout World Cup figures, playing the full 90 minutes in both of Thomas Tuchel’s opening Group L fixtures. ReadManCity has already examined how Anderson’s World Cup form has turned City’s transfer chase into a £120m test.

Forest Stance Keeps Record Fee In Play

Forest’s position is being shaped by timing as much as valuation. The report states owner Evangelos Marinakis is personally handling negotiations, while a formal deal could be delayed until July for financial-year accounting reasons.

For City, the logic is clear. Bernardo Silva’s exit has removed a high-control midfielder from the squad, while questions around Rodri’s long-term future have made the engine room a priority area for Enzo Maresca.

City have also considered alternative midfield routes, including Sandro Tonali after Tottenham’s rejected Newcastle bid, but Anderson now looks the live negotiation. That keeps pressure on City to decide how far they are willing to stretch.

If Forest hold their line beyond the £125million benchmark, City must decide whether Anderson’s age, Premier League proof and World Cup authority justify breaking the market.
